New Materials for optical technologies
The aim of the project is to develop a new class of metal dimers as emitter materials for optical technologies. Based on the fundamental work on the new d8-d8 diplatinate complex [Pt2(pop-BF2)4]4-, the focus lies on improvements of the investigated platinum dimer complex and on the extension of the findings to iridium(I) and rhodium(I) dimers. Furthermore, it is planned to dope the new emitter compounds in functionalized matrices for sensor and/or OLED applications. Chemical modifications and syntheses will be carried out by the group of Prof. Dr. Harry B Gray at CalTech, in particular, with respect to modifications of dimer bridging groups and ligand variations. The study of photophysical properties and the influence of functionalized polymer materials on emission properties will be done in Regensburg by the group of Prof. Dr. Hartmut Yersin.
