Plasma Treatment for improved Battery Electrodes

Prof. Dr. Karl Heinz Pettinger
University of applied sciences Landshut
Technologiezentrum Energie

Prof. Dr. Nina Abramzon
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
Associate Chair Department of Physics and Astronomy

Batteries are an important branch of research. Dr. Pettinger, is professor of electrical energy storage, at the University of Landshut. Dr. Abramzon is an assistant professor at CPP in Department of Physics and Astronomy possessing extensive scientific expertise in plasma generation in particular development of inline and continuous manufacturing techniques for material treatment. Three measures will be considered in the cooperative activities between Dr. Pettinger and Dr. Abramzon: (1) preparing electrodes in the German pilot line (2) definition of research goals prior to the cooperation by close communication between the two universities (3) plasma treatment in der laboratories of CPP and assembly and testing of battery cells. In particular, Drs. Abramzon and Pettinger will consider the different plasma technologies for improvement of the internal surfaces of between electrodes and separator in the cell.

Final report:
This project was based on intense work stays in the partner laboratories for technology transfer. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions these hands-on measures could not be realized.
