Within the scope of this project, we fabricate hard-magnetic islands consisting of Co/Pt multilayers on top of Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) thin films. The emanating dipole fields of the Co/Pt nanomagnets are employed to influence spin wave propagation in YIG locally. With this method, diverse magnonic structures can be built and investigated. A prospective approach is a magnonic crystal, which is generally classified as a periodic change of the magnetic properties in a spin wave propagation material. YIG based magnonic crystals are created with periodic assemblies of those Co/Pt nanomagnets on top. A variation of shape, multilayer geometry as well as the distance between the Co/Pt magnets results in different dipole field profiles and therefore in a change of the dispersion relation in YIG. In 1D this would correspond to an array of stripe magnets, and travelling spin waves have already been measured in transmission mode. Hereby, we can observe the occurrence of additional spatial modes and bandgaps in the spin wave dispersion relation, which means there are certain frequencies spans where spin wave propagation is suppressed. Those first results are a promising milestone for the fabrication of more complex structures based.
