The emerging fields of technology wearable sensors are able to measure motor impairment in movement disorders. We have developed an instrumented gait analysis system (eGaIT) for patients with Parkinson's disease using wearable sensors. In several pilot studies we were able to show that eGaIT generates objective gait parameters and validated scores characterizing different disease stages and motor impairment. Instrumented gait analysis has a great potential to provide novel clinical target values as outcome measures for clinical studies and care. Thus, the goal of the BaCaTeC project is to design and initiate a multicenter-longitudinal study to test the usefulness of instrumented gait analysis as an objective clinical outcome parameter. Ultimately, it will prove the clinical applicability of instrumented gait analysis.
